[xep-support] Strange Java Error: "java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "i""

Hi,

I'm using a DocBook document with an article root element and
transformed into XSL-FO with the (original) DocBook stylesheets. This
works fine so far. 

However, when I include the same article inside a book, XEP fails to
output PDF and prints the following error message (slightly formatted
due to better readability):

   (generate [output-format pdf][i]error:
   formatting failed: java.lang.NumberFormatException: 
   For input string: "i"

I've observed with the previous version 4.21 this does not happen.

Any hints?
