Perhaps XEP may be running out of memory and you just need to increase
available memory to XEP. Like Michael says, look at your webserver's logs.

Hello, Sajeesh,

I believe that you can successfully render your FO with both fonts from
command line using the same jdk, xep.xml and environment. If so, you may
want to create a crush test (100 times render the same source with the same
instance of FormatterImpl). I believe this also does not fail.
If so, than XEP is not to be blamed for WebSphere crashes. To debug you
first of all need to get a stacktrace from WebSphere.
