Yes, this is the problem I found. I think the only solution to making crop marks that are print vendor friendly is to make them manually using fo:table. Please consider this as a feature request to XEP, because I'm sure that it would be useful to a lot of people. The way I believe it should work is that bleed PI instruction should set the crop marks apart but WITHOUT adding a white border. This would be perfect.<br>

In my case, I also enlarged the body margins to bring the body area back to the intended size, because my bleed content was in the start and end areas. I give instructions to the print vendor as to the PDF page size and trim size, and have not had a problem with this method. However, I don't think it would work if you must have crop marks as well, because in XEP those start at the corners of the fo page size.</font></div>

<div>The purpose of the bleed is that so that when you have an image or a color that needs to go to the very edge of the page, with a bleed you can make the crop marks further in so that you can be sure that when the printers do the cutting, the image/color goes to the very edge, because if they cut a bit less otherwise there will be a white edge on the paper.</div>
