Hello Jean-Francois,

A new version of XEP, 4.20, includes a change related to this problem. 
Although it is not a perfect fix, it turns the error to be non-fatal, that is, what used to trigger a crash may now result in an error message and a missing change bar, but not a crash.

Please try upgrading.
