[xep-support] Preventing Type 1 fonts from subsetting

Ken,

I could not reproduce the effect: on all our tests, fonts correctly
obey subsetting values specified in fonts.xml. Could you please
send us off-list (to support at renderx.com) an offending PDF sample,
with etc/fonts.xml, PFB, and AFM for us to recreate the situation?

Best regards,
Nikolai Grigoriev

Subject: [xep-support] Preventing Type 1 fonts from subsetting

I recently upgraded versions of XEP to version 3.7.1 (from version 3.13) and have started to get complaints from our printers that
although the PDFs we're supplying pass a Pitstop preflight, they are failing on press (quite dramatically!) because of font
subsetting. When I use the preflight associated with Acrobat 6.0, the fonts are indeed all subsetted, although I've set the
appropriate attribute in the fonts.xml file.

We're using Type 1 fonts (TrueType fonts have had other spectacular failures) and need to deliver them fully embedded. Below is an
example of what we have in the fonts.xml file.

<font name="AgfaRotisSerif" afm="D:\fonts\RotisSerifT1\AT641___.AFM" pfb="D:\fonts\RotisSerifT1\AT641___.PFB" embed="true"
subset="false">
          <alias name="Rotis Serif"/>
          <alias name="RotisSerif"/>
     </font>

Do you have any suggestions on what I can do about this?

Ken Brooks
