Yes, it's our fault. Will be fixed in the next release.

You are right. Unlike other back-ends, this one does not
ignore unrecognized PIs. It happened that class-specific 
PI processing code overrode mechanisms common
to all back-ends. The fix will come soon; thank you
for the feedback.
