[xep-support] error: unicode charater in the document

That sometimes happens if you cut and paste text in from another app
(like MSWord) that has 'smart quotes' or other weirdness in it. They can
be difficult to pinpoint, but if you know that some of the text in your
doc was pasted in from word or something, I'd start looking there.

Narinder,

the message is produced by the parser XEP uses (Xerces, in this case),
not by XEP.

Check with your parser what the problem is.
