Subject: Re: [xep-support] PFM to AFM
Ronald,
I can add some of my experience:
>I have PFM files for some Type 1 fonts that I've tried to convert to AFM
files using the AFM2PFM utility (I compiled the code for Win32). However, I
haven't had any success in using these files.
I had this problem 1-2 weeks ago. It appeared that some characters was
missing in the output. I never looked close on it, but it may have been all
characters outside the ASCII range. I finally got the AFM files from
another person. Generally, I think if you have a licence for the font, you
can always ask the manufacturer. Adobe got lots of AFMs on their FTP site
too, but I'm not familiar with the numbering system. Have a look and see if
you find it:
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/type/win/all/afmfiles
>Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully convert PFM files? I
wonder if the lack of AFM files is an issue with the Windows distribution
of Adobe fonts files.
Maybe, but in all Type 1 fonts I've bought, there have always been AFMs
included. But since the conversion from AFM to PFM is so bad, perhaps XEP
support for PFM would be a good idea? *nudge, nudge* :-)
