[xep-support] There was a problem reading this document (109)

Using xep 2.7 -> .ps, then ghostscript 6.0 -> pdf, when we open the pdf
in Acrobat to make a minor change (set the pdf to open with the bookmark
pane open), when we try to save it, sometimes we get the error message:
"The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this
document (109)." I haven't been able to figure out what's different when
this happens. Anybody have any idea? I searched for that cryptic error
message and found a few references to it, but nothing useful.
